Augustine Dipped In Gold

Friday, May 1 Aaron Augustine took gold in the 1-meter diving board competition at De Anza College’s second day of hosting the California Community College Athletic Association 2019 State Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship.

The Rio Hondo Roadrunners diver recorded a 287.50 which bettered two-time champion Josh Hamby from San Joaquin Delta’s 273.80. Ending hopes of a three-peat for the Delta diver.

It took a forward-1 and a half inch somersault with a 1-twist for an 8.5 that ultimately won him the top of the podium over Hamby. A day before, Augustine earned a score of 259.95 in the 3-meter competition and made the podium there as well with a second place spot.

It adds to the list of accolades the Roadrunners freshman has been collecting all season, including an All-American honors. The South Coast Conference 2019 Diver of the Year also won first place in the 1 and 3-meter competitions.
