Copa del Rey: Barcelona get Beyond Rival Madrid

FC Barcelona has once again reached the Copa Del Rey Final after defeating rivals Real Madrid Wednesday, Feb. 27 after two legs in the semifinal. They entered the match tied 1-1 after the first game needing a victory on the road to advance to their sixth consecutive final. FC Barcelona have made a habit of silencing the crowd with their stellar play. They continued with their outstanding performance.

Barcelona Striker scores two goals to send Barcelona to Final

Striker Luis Suarez scored two goals for Barcelona. It also included an own goal from Raphael Varane completing a 3-0 win(4-1 aggregate). Two of Barcelona’s four shots were on target opposed to their rivals Real Madrid. They took 14 shots in total and were unable to convert them into goals.

Real Madrid dominate first Half

Real Madrid came into the match with an advantage of an away goal. The score was a 1-1 draw in the first leg which was played in Camp Nou. Heading into halftime the score was 0-0 which is very unusual for a Clasico. Real Madrid were by far the better team for the first 45 minutes of this game, but the inability to score made it very difficult to stay in the game.

Real Madrid play by Vinicius Junior

Los Blancos seemed destined to break the tie by creating many chances during a commanding 45 minutes into the first half of the match. Real Madrid had many opportunities to score thanks to the amazing play of 18 year old Vinicius Junior.

Dembele’s amazing play send the Catalans to their six straight final

As the second half began, the Uruguayan striker scored the first goal of the match with a pass from his teammate Ousmane Dembele. Barcelona went up by two goals in the 68th minute as Dembele send a pin-point cross to the far post forcing Varane to score under the pressure of Suarez. Minutes later, Casemiro tackled the Uruguayan striker inside the box as Barcelona were handed a penalty. Suarez scored a Panenka shot, mocking Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos who usually attempts that trick. This led to the Catalans to  advance to their sixth consecutive Copa del Rey final.

Barcelona accomplishment will never be repeated

FC Barcelona are the first team to reach six cup finals in a row. Barcelona defender Gerard Pique stated “Reaching a sixth final..I don’t think what we have achieved is something that will ever happen again in the Copa Del Rey”. Real Madrid will seek revenge as they face the league leaders once again at Santiago Bernabeu.
