Why Are Manny Machado and Bryce Harper Still Free Agents?

The two biggest names in baseball are still without a team. Bryce Harper, age 26, and Manny Machado, age 27, are two of baseballs youngest stars and are still without the big contracts. Will a team be able to strike a deal before Spring Training starts in a week? Or are we going to have a J.D. Martinez incident who signed with the Red Sox during Spring Training?

Machado has one offer from the Chicago White Sox for a whopping 7 year $175-million-dollar deal. But Machado has not accepted that offer because he is weighing his options. So far Machado has met with the Phillies and the White Sox, but some have speculated that he will end up with the Yankees.

If Machado is looking for more money, he won’t be getting because of the way he acted during the World Series when he was trying to take out Jesus Aguilar’s ankle. He also said in an interview that “I’m not the kind of player that’s going to be Johnny Hustle.” This comment that Machado made hurt his chances of getting that big contract that he wanted because teams were now viewing him as a selfish player.

Machado’s batting average last season was .297 which isn’t the best, but for a guy who wants more than $175 million. Would Machado be better off signing a one or two-year deal to increase his worth so he could then get the big contract that he feels he deserves?

Bryce Harper has drawn some attention from some teams regarding his free agency, but no team has yet to make him a formal offer. He has met with only a few teams, but with no offer on the table, it makes you wonder if he wants too much money or if he waiting for the right team to make him that offer.

Dodgers fans were hoping that Harper would come to the Dodgers due to them getting rid of Yasiel Puig. That now opens up a spot for Harper in right field. But with the signing of A.J Pollock to a 4 year $55 million dollar deal. It makes you wonder did if the signing of Pollock shows that the Dodgers will not further pursue Harper. Only time will tell where both Harper and Machado will end up next.
