Wrestling: Roadrunners Pinned By Palomar College

Wednesday,  Nov.7 the Rio Hondo wrestling squad had a home meet against Palomar College. Coming into the match 0-1 as a team, the Roadrunners looked to get it together after a 34-13 loss to Cerritos College Oct. 25. Palomar came into this match with a team record of 1-0 with an impressive victory over Mt. San Antonio College 39-6.

The match started with two 125-pound wrestlers on the mat. Rio Hondo and Palomar split the first two duals then Rio Hondo went down a slope – losing three out of the next four.

Palomar seemed to gain control of the match from the start with consecutive impressive wins.

As the match progressed, Rio Hondo gained confidence and climbed there way back on the scorecards.

The final match was an impressive one as Ruben Martinez, a 285 pounder, brought the Roadrunners back into the meet with impressive takedowns and pins which added to the score tremendously.

Down 8 points with 2 matches to go, Rio Hondo won the last 2 duals to bring their score to 27. Rio came close but the final surge was not enough to trump Palomar’s 28 tallies.

Rio falls to 0-2 as a team and Palomar rises to 2-0 this season. Next match for Rio Hondo is the East Los Angeles College Brawl Tournament  Nov.17 where they will try to gain their confidence back and go into that match with high expectations.
