NBA Week 1 Recap and Future Predictions

After one week of the NBA season down, we’re all getting a feel for what all the teams have lined up and their expectations. After one week we only have 5 undefeated teams; Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, Denver Nuggets, and the New Orleans Pelicans. This season seems to be very exciting with high scoring games. Throughout the first week, the average points scored per team is 113 points. Which is crazy high, increasing the average scoring by 8 points from last season’s average of 105.

Scoring is becoming much easier in the NBA, due to the fast pace of games now. It seems almost like teams are trading baskets back and forth. We’ve had 44 players score 30+ points so far this season which is the fastest in NBA history. We witnessed 2 players score 50 points when last season we only saw 13 players accomplish this milestone. Blake Griffin and Stephan Curry both recorded 50 point games in 2 thrillers.

The most talked about team in this offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers, started off their season on the wrong note with a 1-3 record losing in dramatic fashion all 3 times.  Their second game of the season versus the Houston Rockets was a dramatic one. A fight broke out between Brandon Ingram, Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul. It was late in the fourth quarter when Chris Paul was talking trash to Rajon Rondo. Rondo spits on Chris Paul which leads Paul to hit him in his face. Rondo swung back, but Brandon Ingram came running and punched Chris Paul.  This lead to the suspension of all 3 players. The frustration of the losing Lakers is taking a turn for the worse, above all they seem to not be clicking, but as the season progresses their chemistry will definitely improve.

After asking multiple people about their predictions this season, I got plenty of different answers. I asked basketball players at Rio Hondo college their predictions on who will win the NBA championship.

“Golden State Warriors, they’re going to easily win again for the 3rd straight year,” said Elijah Mccoy.

Uzi Felix said, “I think the Los Angeles Lakers are going to win because LeBron James is the Goat.”

We will all have to wait and see as we enjoy the season.
