RHC women’s water polo ends South Coast Conference with 7-5 win against PCC

The Rio Hondo College women’s water polo team improved their overall record to 10-13 after their 7-5  South Coast Conference victory over Pasadena City College Oct. 26 as they closed out the season.

Freshman Quinn Reynosa helped lead Rio Hondo against Pasadena City College scoring four goals while Sophomore Emily Mena scored three, dividing Rio’s offense of the day between the two.

Rio Hondo wrapped up their regular South Coast Conference season with a 4-4 record. After the conference they prepared for the RHC Mini Tournament Oct. 28.

Rio Hondo was down 3-1 early on against Pasadena City College in the first quarter, but a goal by Reynosa with 1:57 minutes left in the quarter and another by Mena with 13 seconds left on the clock tied up the game 3-3 for Rio Hondo.

The second quarter remained scoreless as neither side was able to put a shot past the goalie, but in the third quarter Rio picked up the tempo and scored three goals to give them a 6-3 lead against Pasadena City.

Zuri Pulido scored two more goals in the fourth quarter and now had four out of five goals for Pasadena that put them within reach of a comeback against Rio Hondo, but they fell short 7-5 after a late goal in the end of the quarter secured the Lady Roadrunners victory.

With the season now over, Rio Hondo looked to host Santa Ana College Oct. 28 for the RHC Mini Tournament where they had a 10:30 a.m. game followed by a 1:30 p.m. contest against Los Angeles Valley College.

Rio Hondo managed to get the win against Santa Ana by a comfortable score of 16-8, but unfortunately got completely shutout by their LA Valley College opponents as they fell short 14-0.

With the tournament now over, Rio Hondo now awaits the start of the South Coast Conference Championship Nov. 3 at Pasadena City College.
