The Lady Roadrunners give up 4 runs in the third inning and could not come back as they lose to ELAC 4-2.
Rio and ELAC were tight locked at 0-0 until ELAC’s left fielder Heather Saucedo led off the third inning with a double.
A error by Rio gave ELAC its first lead of the game, 1-0, and center fielder Larissa Munoz got a double off of pitcher Jacquelyn Valdez to keep the game at 4-0.
Rio responded with its first run in the bottom of the fourth with a home run blast by Monica Gomez.
Tiffany Soria also hit a home run but it wasn’t enough as they ultimately fell 4-2.
Alashanee Medina was the winning pitcher for East Los Angeles College, giving up two runs and four hits while striking out eight Lady Roadrunners.
Jacquelyn Valdez was the losing pitcher after giving up 11 hits and two earned runs.
The Lady Roadrunners were dominant against their interconference foe as they shutout Barstow 8-0 under the mercy rule Fri., March 7, at Rio Hondo College.
Jacquelyn Valdez got the win for Rio as she pitched masterfully over 5 scoreless innings.
She only gave up two hits and walked three while striking out two Lady Viking Warriors.
With this win, it gives her 6 wins, on the young season. Jacquelyn also got the offense started with a triple and scoring second basemen Aishia Ruiz and gave Rio its first lead 1-0.
Rio kept the scoring button on and would never look back a few innings later as third basemen Ariana Duran scored right fielder Monica Gomez to make it a 3-0 cushion.
With the bases loaded, Catcher Kimberly Valverde also had a sac fly to score center fielder Anabel De Casas and give Rio a 4-0 lead.
During the bottom of the fourth, the exclamation point for this game was by right fielder Monica Gomez, whose 2-run home run gave Rio a 6-0 lead.
Jacquelyn would end the game on a single to right and give Rio a 8-0 lead and end the game on the mercy rule.
With the hitting performance it gives Valdez 8th place in the foothill conference with a .750 batting average against conference competition and be hind her is Monica Gomez with a .714 batting average.
Barstow’s Alexis Conant was given the loss after giving up 4 earned runs in only two and thirds innings of work.
Barstow’s Kelcee Fessenden and Marissa Dado each had a hit a piece for the 7-12 Lady Vikings. Head Coach Bianca Urquidi on her teams win: “They played a solid game. Jacquelyn and everybody on the team came with a job to do and completed it.
Barstow played a good game and they seem to be getting a little stronger every year that I have seen.” Then starting on the 19, Rio will have a small homestand starting with third place team San Bernandino.
On the 21, they will face Chaffey and on the 28, they will face Victor Valley again.
