Lady Roadrunners successfully rebuilding

Season Review: Rio Hondo Women’s Volleyball Team

Season Record: 9-13 (6-3 in conference play)

The Lady Roadrunners started the season with no fear. They were a very young team that started nine freshman and looked to prove that they should be considered one of the best upcoming teams. They finished with a 9-13 record and third in the conference, but they showed that they were a better team than there record spoke for.

They started the season with impressive wins against two formidable opponents with Southwestern and Antelope Valley. But with the wins also came the losses, which came against league opponents such as Victor Valley College and Chaffey College during the middle of the season. Although they lost to them, the team played hard and with purpose, which the team Coach by Teddie Esko and her assistants imposed on the team. Toward the end of the season, the improvements started to show, as they reeled off wins against Desert and San Bernardino.

But the Lady Roadrunners were not finished yet as they faced Chaffey again during conference play in the last game of the season and got the win, beating the unbeaten Chaffey team 3-2.

To end the season, Makena Schildmeyer was fourth in the Foothill conference with 2.5 kills per set.

Andrea Velasco led the Foothill conference with .54 service aces per set. Jasmin Marcias lead the Foothill conference with 7.14 assists per set.

With five returning freshman coming next season, The Lady Roadrunners seem poised to for a better season next year with a hope to get tops in the conference and maybe a play
