Women’s water polo team sink but still swim

Rio Hondo’s women’s water polo, after suffering three straight losses to open the season, will try to get into the winning side of things this weekend when it enters the Mt. San Antonio College tournament.

The Roadrunners opened up the season by losing to Mt. SAC, 16-8, Santa Monica, 15-5, and Los Angeles Valley, 22-14.

The Lady Roadrunners tried their luck again at the Los Angeles valley tournament but came up short with Kortney Kindig leading her team well scoring 7 points . Natalie Figueroa scored 1 point, alongside fellow teammates Sarah Ramirez and Adelina Hanamaika contributing 5 points together.

The woman tried their best to keep their heads over water against Santa Monica on Friday the 14th. Natalie Figueroa scoring 2 points alongside Adelina Hanamaikas 2 points, and Amber Jacobos lone point. The team didn’t do enough to win and their luck hasn’t been great so far.

Rio Hondos water polo opening game didn’t go as well as their two latest games either. Their loss seemed to set the tone for the rest of the unfortunate week.

The first and second quarter had been rough for the lady roadrunners, letting the woman from mt. sac gain the upper hand by scoring  5 more points than the roadrunners.  “ This is our first game of the season and its Mt. sacs fifth game, and I think that really made a difference.” Says Hinze after the game had ended in Mt. sacs favor.

Team leader Kortney Khindig shined in this quarter scoring alongside her team mates , Natalie Figueroa, Andrea Zamarripa , and Adelina Hanamaika. At the end the ladies water polo team faultered to Mt. Sac’s constant attacks on their goal and immense pressure put on the Rio Hondo Players.
