Women’s Water Polo Squad Are Ready

Practicing two times a day combined with giving it their all this season, the women’s water polo team of Rio Hondo College is not only gaining their aquatic superiority through intensive practices, but great leadership.

Led by Coach Mike Hinze and assistant coaches Oscar Dorado, Marcus Moncibaes, and Jesus Mora, the ladies water polo squad seemingly has all the right ingredients for a great 2012 season.

With 14 impressive girls turning out to join water polo the team has never seen so much potential. Hinze explains ‘”I am always learning and improving as a coach as the years go on. I am looking forward to a great season because last year there were so many injuries and academic ineligibilities but, there is a lot of talent and this is the biggest team we have ever had.”

For a team this size there needs to be a great role model and these women find their rock in team captain Kortney Kindig assisted by co-captain Sarah Ramirez.

Water polo also has the luxury of having a solid returning goalie in Janet Viallobos, “we are very confident and excited in the starting line up this will be the best year we are very happy to have Janet Viallobos as our goalie this season she is great” explain Kindig and Ramirez.

To get her team ready Kindig always gives a pep talk to her team before a game, “whether you play or not, you’re part of the team and you help each other out.”

The team dives into this season on Sept. 12 competing against Mt. SAC. It is sure to be an interesting matchup so take a stroll down to Palm Park at 3 pm to catch Rio ladies in the swimming pool.
