Donald Trump Launches His Communications Platform

Former president Donald Trump launched a communications platform to relay messages to his followers on May 4. The site “From The Desk Of Donald J. Trump” has gained criticism ever since the idea of it was first conceived.

Trump has touted the idea of his own social media site since his suspension from others such as Twitter and Facebook for spreading misinformation and provoking the Capitol riot earlier this year. Trump’s own social media platform launched during his campaign “Trump 2020” was also taken off the internet.

The new platform is not an app but a page off of his website. Described by The Guardian as a “glorified blog” on the surface seems to be just that. Opening the page reveals a small picture of Trump at Mar-a-lago. There is also a video stating, “In a time of silence and lies, a beacon of freedom arises. A place to speak freely and safely. Straight from the desk of Donald J. Trump.” The rest of the page lists various statements and past social media posts. There are options to like and repost the statements but no ability to comment on Them. Notifications can be sent to users when a new statement is posted. There is also a tab to donate to Trump’s organization.
