Looking to the future of gaming

Game Evolution

“Video games have certainly come a long way since Pong.” Something my mom said while watching me play Star Wars Battlefront. And she is absolutely right. Video games have and continue to surprise us with cool new developments and games. Here are a few I am excited about.

Virtual Reality

There are several different virtual reality devices that are being made by several different companies. The idea of having virtual reality games is very interesting and opens up a whole new way of playing video games. It looks like it’ll be very great for first person shooter games. I want to get the one by Sony which is supposed to connect to a ps4. I’m still waiting for the day where you can play games with a holodeck. It’s going to happen. Perhaps they’ll have that when my future kids are playing games. There isn’t currently a release date yet for the Sony virtual reality headset. All that has been announced about it is that it should come out this year.

Pokémon Go

Pokémon Go, for those who may not have heard, is an upcoming game which will be the second Pokémon app game. Its supposed to work similarly to how the game Ingress works. Its a location based game. This isn’t a game that you can just sit on your couch and play. You’re going to have to actually leave the confines of your home. When I first heard about Pokémon Go, I was extremely excited. The best way to describe just how excited I was would be Cartman’s excitement for the Wii in the South Park episodes Go God Go 1 and 2. This was something 12 year-old me would have loved to have had. Some questions I do have are:

1. Will there be pokemon gyms and if so how will that work?

2. Will the pokemon you can catch in your area be pokemon that are best suited for where you live (for example; desert pokemon in deserty areas, or wingulls at the beach?) And if so, will there be a trading option similar to the Wonder Trade in X and Y? Or any kind of global trade option?

3. Will there be a fishing option and if so how will that work?

4. Will there be special locations for catching legendaries? If so how far spread out will they be? (It would suck to have to drive a long time to find a Kyogre, especially with how expensive gas is)

5. There are wristbands that are supposed to give you alerts when you’re not playing on your phone. How will they work?

As of now there isn’t a set release date and we have yet to see what the gameplay looks like.

South Park : The Fractured But Whole

I had discovered South Park a couple years ago during the summer after I decided to watch a couple episodes just to see if I liked it. I went through all 17 seasons that summer and have been a fan of the show ever since. South Park : The Fractured But Whole is the sequel to South Park : Stick of Truth which was a hilarious game. The game had a great storyline and it made it seem like you were in a long South Park episode. I have high hopes for The Fractured But Whole as well. The announcement of this game was the final push I needed to finally buy a PlayStation 4, which looking back now I find funny since Stick or Truth was what made me choose to get the PlayStation 3. If the newest game is anything like the first, which I’m very sure it will be and if Matt Stone and Trey Parker are writing the plot of the game just like the first, it’s going to be amazing. Its set to be released sometime this year.

These are a few really awesome things I’m looking forward to. In the meantime, I’ll be here, waiting very impatiently.
