Developing story, RHC student may be affected by Tyson chicken nugget recall
Crystian Mendoza, El Paisano sport’s editor, is suffering from chronic abdominal pain that may be in direct relation to the recent Tyson Food Inc.’s nationwide chicken nugget recall.
Mendoza stated that the abdominal pain first occurred only at night, but gradually began to bother him during the day as well. As to the extremity of the pain, it too began subtly “it started off as simply an uncomfortable feeling, but over the course of about a month and a half the pain has now become severe with random sharp pains coming and going to the point where it affects the way that I walk,” said Mendoza
Since the frequency and intensity of the pain increased Mendoza has been to the doctors twice. Once on Sept. 27 for a basic check up and again today, where the doctors gave him prescribed pain killers. He scheduled an ultrasound for Tuesday, October 4, but due to the intensity of the pain he may attempt to get the procedure done sooner.
Mendoza’s mother had purchased the allegedly tainted nuggets from the Norwalk Costco, off of the 605 freeway.
When his mother returned the bags and explained Mendoza’s condition to a Costco representative, she was asked if their family is planning to sue. After discussing it with his family, Mendoza would consider suing Tyson if they find a relation between the nugget recall and his illness.
This story will be updated as it develops.
Tyson is reportedly recalling as many as 132,520 pounds of chicken nugget products that may have been contaminated with hard plastic, according to an official announcement made by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The suspected products are 5-lb. bags labeled “Tyson FULLY COOKED PANKO CHICKEN NUGGETS” with a “Best If Used By” date of July 18, 2017 with case codes 2006SDL03 and 2006SDL33.
In addition, 20-lb. bulk packages containing “SPARE TIME Fully Cooked, Panko Chicken Nuggets, Nugget Shaped Chicken Breast Pattie Fritters With Rib Meat” with a July 18, 2016 production date and case code 2006SDL03.
The voluntary recall was made after Tyson received consumer reports of the chicken nuggets having foreign material embedded in them.
