The Transfer Academy offers students many benefits

The Transfer Academy is being offered to students for the spring 2016 semester at Rio Hondo College to provide students with the tools and information needed to transfer to a 4-year university.

To fully participate in this program, students should sign up for the Counseling 101 course offered during the Spring semester as well as apply to the Transfer Academy either through a Student Success coach, or directly on the website.

The Transfer Academy aims to provide many future benefits to students in their academic life.

Students participating in the Transfer Academy are given priority to sign up for the Northern California University Tour during the spring and the Central California University Tour during the winter semester of next year.

Unlike other Rio Hondo students, the students in the academy are able to meet with transfer counselors twice per semester in order to make sure that they are on the right track for a successful transition.

Some schools that are visited during the University Tours are UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Berkeley, Sacramento State University and University of La Verne. All tours are free and the transportation is provided by Rio Hondo; however, there is a limit of spaces available for each campus tour.

For students considering the Summer Scholar Transfer Institute held at UC Irvine, the Transfer Academy offers priority for everyone in the program.

Furthermore, the people involved in the Transfer Academy get precedence for seats at the Rio Hondo Transfer Conference.

Unlike other Rio Hondo students, the students in the academy are able to meet with transfer counselors twice per semester in order to make sure that they are on the right track for a successful transition.

During the Spring semester at Rio Hondo, it is mandatory for students who are a part of the Transfer Academy to take two Counseling 101 classes.

The two courses are each taught by Ms. De leon and Ms. Garcia. The meeting times of the two classes vary and give students the opportunity to learn theoretical approaches in counseling.

The program is available for every first time college student. Every student must plan to enroll, or already pass courses such as Math 50 and English 35 in order to be eligible.

Students can use resources offered by the Transfer Academy in order to research their own transfer options, make smart choices and plan a smooth transition.

Students who have already finished a Counseling 101 course at Rio Hondo are not eligible for the Transfer Academy.

Before signing up online, students need to make sure they have already met all the academic requirements in order to successfully participate.

It is recommended to sign up as soon as possible because the program is only available to 70 students.
