Rio Hondo College’s annual Club Rush

Rio Hondo hosted it’s annual club rush this semester in the lower quad from 10 a.m. to 1.pm.

A variety of clubs were in attendance of the events, including: Science club, Pre-Law Society, Honors Society, Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), Association of Latino American Students (ALAS), Art Guild, Artists Creating Theater (ACT), The Creative Writing Club (CWC), The Chinese Club, The French Club of Rio Hondo, Computer Science Club, Child Development Club, Spectrum (Formerly Gsa), The Career Development Center, Pathway to Law School, alongside a variety of others.

The Association of Latino American Students  (ALAS) aims at “providing resources and support for latino students. we are also bringing awareness to a lot of the issues facing us today.” ALAS will be hosting time-management workshops, transferring workshops in coordination with the transfer center, alongside more laid back activities like trips to the museum, and hiking. They will be meeting every Tuesday starting the 29th, in room A208 at 1 p.m. ALAS also pointed out that one does not need to be Latino to join the club.

The Career Development Center also took part of club rush, promoting their goals to help students “develop career goals, decide on a major, build resumes, have mock interviews, and whatever they need to take that next step to find a job or a career.” The office can be located on the third floor of the ss building.

Spectrum, is a club that aims at creating a safe place for people of all genders and sexual identities. They are going to be promoting safe sex by holding sex ed workshops, and even aim to hold a prom at the end of the semester, for people who “had a less than fun prom when they were in high school.” They will be meeting Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. in A208.

Club rush unifies the variety of clubs Rio Hondo offers, and makes them available for students to join. Alongside the clubs, their was a DJ, musical chairs, and even a bungee cord trampoline.
