3-Day Blood Drive held at RHC

Rio Hondo invited the Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital on campus to give students an opportunity to donate blood.

This three-day event took place Monday, April 28, through Wednesday, April 30, and started at around 9 a.m. and proceeded until 3:30 p.m.

Rio Hondo students were volunteers in this event that took place at the mobile unit underneath the Business Building west of the Lower Quad area.

Canopies covered a waiting area while the inner part of the tunnel had tables set up with all the equipment needed for the day.

Rio Hondo volunteers along with nurses from PIH arrived early and started setting up equipment in their designated areas in order to be ready for the day’s event.

Rene Sanchez, 22, a volunteer at this event who was also a Rio Hondo Student said, “PIH didn’t ask to come to Rio, we actually invited PIH on campus.”

The reasons behind this invitation might seem special especially after taking into consideration that three lives could be saved per donation.

The same volunteer mentioned “Give blood, save a life” trying to express the commitment he is putting into his work as students sign up and give blood to those who might need.

Although PIH is not affiliated with the American Red Cross, the ARC reports require 44,000 blood donations every day.
