Thinking about transferring to a four-year university? Rio Hondo will again be hosting a Transfer Fair here on campus. The Transfer Fair this semester will be on Tuesday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Mid Quad area.

Transfer from Rio Hondo to any one of these excellent universities:

  • Academy of Art University

  • American Jewish Institute
  • Biola University
  • Brandman University
  • Cal Poly Pomona
  • Cal State University Dominguez Hills
  • Cal State University Fullerton
  • Cal State University Long Beach
  • Cal State University Los Angeles
  • CSUB College of Extended Learning
  • California Baptist University
  • Columbia University

  • Hope International University
  • Humboldt State University
  • Marymount California University

All of these schools will be on campus with representatives ready to answer any questions you might have as well as provide helpful tips to get you admitted into their university. This is also a good way to network with others interested in the same school or major.

In addition to this great opportunity there are a few other events that the Transfer Center will be putting together in the coming months.

The first is the Summer Scholars Transfer Institute (SSTI), being held in summer 2014, Friday, July 25, through Sunday, August 3, here at Rio Hondo. As a part of this program, students will be enrolled in a one-unit Counseling 111 Leadership Skills Development class and have the option to choose from one of the following courses:

Earth Science 110 (3 Units): Introduction to Earth Science (IGETC-Area 5A)

English 103 (4 Units): Critical Thinking and Writing (IGETC-Area 1) or

Communication Studies 102 (3 Units): Public Speaking (IGETC-Area 1C)

Applications for SSTI are due on Friday, April 25, at 12 p.m. in the Transfer Center, Room SS250.

The second event is for students who will be graduating or transferring to a four-year university this year. If this is you, the Transfer Center will be hosting a “2014 Student Success Celebration” on Thursday, May 8, at 5 p.m. at the Clarke Estate in the city of Santa Fe Springs.

If you’re interested, an RSVP is required. To RSVP for this event, or for more information on anything mentioned in this article, please visit the Transfer Center in Room SS250 or by phone at (562) 463-4619.
