The League of Women Voters will be hosting a candidate forum for two of the local school board races occurring in Whittier on Oct. 1, in the evening from 8:30-9:30 p.m., at the Whittier City Hall Council Chambers.

These forums will provide local residents and students of the school to hear from the future local school board of representatives, and to familiarize themselves with the individuals who will be in charge of representing them in matters of education.

One of these candidate forums will feature Rio Hondo’s very own retired faculty member, Mary Ann Pacheco, who is running for a position on the Rio Hondo College Board of Trustees.

There will be five total candidate forums in the Whittier area, all put on by the Whittier chapter of the League of Women Voters.

Oct. 1 will feature the East Whittier City School District Board of Education, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and the Rio Hondo College Board of Trustees, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., both at the Whittier City Hall Council Chamber.

Oct. 2 showcases the South Whittier School District Board of Education, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and the Orchard Dale Water District Board of Directors, from 8:40 to 9:30 p.m., both at Richard Graves Middle School.

Oct. 7 will feature the Santa Fe Springs City Council, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Little Lake City School District Board of Education, from 8:40 to 9:40 p.m., both at Gus Velasco Neighborhood Center.

Oct. 9 showcases the Pico Water District Board of Directors, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the El Rancho Unified School District Board of Directors, from 7:40 to 8:55 p.m., and the Pico Rivera City Council, from 9 to 10 p.m., all at the Pico Rivera Senior Center.
