Rio Hondo’s own Super Gamer Bro’s club is going to have a fundraiser tournament to kick off their new semester as the official gamer’s club. What game will they be playing you ask? Not only is it one of my favorite games for the Wii, but an instant classic, Super Smash Bros Brawl. And for those who don’t know about Brawl it’s a sequel to Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Anyone who has played a GameCube or a Nintendo 64 should recognize the title Super Smash Bros, but for anyone new to the game it’s a 3D fighter made popular back in the 1999 for being based on the characters of Nintendo, SEGA and Konami games. That just means that you’ll see familiar characters such as Mario from the Mario games, Link from The Legend of Zelda, and Pikachu from Pokémon.

There’s a  $5 five fee to enter the tournament, pizza and drinks will also be sold. It’s going to take place in the Student Union building. The tournament is going to be open to all students and for those outsiders who want in tough luck. Super Gamers Bros will offer first, second and third place winners a chance to win some Visa gift cards.

A goal of the tournament is to help others gain a different look on gamers. It’s too often gamers get a bad reputation for being aggressive on and off line. The tournament offers a chance to show that gamers are also students who not only practice good people skill but also communicate with each other in a respectable manner. Whether it is using a microphone to talk online or just playing with friends and family at home.  If all goes well Super Gamer Bros will have more tournaments in the future that don’t have to all be about fighting maybe some shooter games or racing.
