Rio Hondo College recognizes Transfer Center’s Clerk Typist III, Aracely Tamayo this year.

Since January 2011, Tamayo has been the glue of the Transfer Center, where she supervises student workers,
assists in hosting transfer fairs, including conferences, setting appointments for students to see either Diane, the
Transfer Coordinator, Jose, the Student Services Assistant, or any other university representative, as well as
coordinating university tours for students, assisting with SARS implementation, serving on Student Success
Celebration and Transfer Conference Committees. In addition to her current tasks, Tamayo has worked as
as a clerk in the following departments: Assessment, P.E., Communications, and the Flex office for 10 1/2
years.
Before taking a position at Rio Hondo College, Tamayo worked as a Nurse’s Aide for 5 years, then as an
Elementary School Community Liaison, and last a Financial Secretary, which she is currently employed full time
at the Brethren Church in Whittier, where she works in planning, executing, including decorating for church
social events, as well as teaching Sunday Bible School to different age groups, and taking care of the children
in the nursery once a month, some being her own grandchildren.
Besides being married with six children and 13 grandchildren: ages 8 months to 18 years, she still manages

to serve Rio Hondo College with such dedication, as well as devoting her loyalty as a “good samaritan”, which
is no wonder why Rio has chosen to recognize this woman’s outstanding workmanship.
