Summer Bridge welcomes new Roadrunners

The first session of the Summer Bridge Program at Rio Hondo College for incoming freshman was held June 22 in LR129.

There will be four orientation sessions to the program with all of them mandatory for those participating. One was held on June 22 and the other on June 29 at 9 a.m. The upcoming orientations sessions will be on July 13 at 9a.m., and July 13 at 12 noon.

Students will be meeting at the parking booth at the bottom of the hill. From there they walk up together as a group, visit the bookstore and walk through key buildings on campus.

Not only will this be the first time for 50-60 new Rio Hondo college students on campus but also many will be taking their assessments as well as receiving information on the Summer Bridge daily activities.

After the new Rio Hondo students attend one of the four mandatory orientations they are to select one of four dates to start the summer bridge week long session. Students participate in a week long commitment to the start of a successful college education.

The first session will begin on July 16-19, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30p.m., session 2 will start on July 23-26, 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., session 3 will be on July 30-Aug. 2, 8:30a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Session 4 is on Aug. 6-9, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The program is designed to help incoming freshman make a more comfortable and smooth transition from high school to Rio.

Through their week experience students; receive academic refresher classes (english,math), educational planning with a counselor, team building with peer mentors, campus tours of student services, light lunch will be provided, and supplies will already be included.
