Now that school has started some students may be too busy with classes, homework, and maybe even work to actually get a good meal in during the day. Students usually just go for snacks that aren’t really good for them like chips, candy, soda and energy drinks.

We students do this just to have something in our system to keep us going. Those snacks can actually make a student feel really tired and keep them from focusing in class. In order to focus in class, students need something healthy.

For students who are looking for healthier snacks or easy lunches, an easy way to go about this is by pre-packing lunch or snacks for school. Below are some ideas that will help you to develop better eating habits.

An easy way to substitute chips is by eating vegetable chips, banana chips, or even crackers. They still have flavor and the crunchy texture, but are healthier. To eliminate candy out of your diet try eating fruit, it is the best way to go. It is naturally sweet and a good way to get some energy and can be filling. For those who don’t like eating plain fruit, try adding fruit to yogurt with granola or peanut butter to add some flavor.

As for drinks the healthiest drink there is out there is water.  Another option is fresh juices like orange juice or homemade smoothies. A drink that can be free or low in calories and gives a lot of energy is tea. Drinking tea in the morning such as black tea has caffeine that provides natural energy and is good for the metabolism. Though it may be hard, the best tip is stay away from soda. So is full of sugar and empty calories.

For lunch, try to stay away from those frozen, prepackaged meals and make your own. Cook something the night before and put it in the fridge so in the morning you can just take it to go. For those who don’t cook, it’s so simple to make a salad or a sandwich with any toppings. Just remember that most things that are homemade is generally healthier than eating fast-food.
