Galactic Film Fest comes to Santa Ana this summer

Do you, or someone you know, like science fiction? Check out the Galactic Film Fest in Santa Ana, Calif. this summer! The two-day film festival will be Aug. 9-10 at the Frida Cinema.

Film submissions for the festival are now open. The Galactic Film Fest accepts submissions for features, shorts, super shorts, web series, and animations, in the following categories: space & aliens; scientific & paranormal; comedy; fantasy and creatures. Here are some of the general rules:

 

–          All films submitted must have been completed on or after July 1, 2013.

–          All films must be submitted in electronic format or version.

–          All feature films must be over 45 and under 120 minutes.

–          All short films & web series must be over 11 and under 44 minutes in length.

–          All super shorts and trailers must be under 10 minutes.

–          Filmmakers will be notified of their submission status by approximately July 18

 

On top of numerous different films, the festival will also include a costume contest that anyone can enter. Galactic Film Fest will also be hosting a sci-fi pageant called “Miss/Mr. Galactic”. In order to participate, contestants must be 21 or older, and is free to enter. The prizes and rules for the contest are as follows:

–          Winner will reign for one year

–          A sash, crown, and a new ROKU box

–          $500 cash ($200 on the spot and $100 for each mandatory event appearance

–          Contestants must submit your own 3 best photos (SCIFI and Cosplay) along with the entry form

–          All finalists MUST attend one  or both days of the festival

–          Entries will be accepted through June 10

–          Online voting will run from June 15 to July 15

–          Finalists will be announced July 16

–          Competition will conclude Aug. 10 before festival awards
