Shazam! A Comedic Take on DC’s Latest Hero

Shazam! Is out in theaters and the first mixed reviews are in. Shazam! Is a good superhero movie, with great comedy in it. It reminds me of the Guardians of The Galaxy, a superhero/comedy movie. It shows us that anyone can be a superhero, we just have to find it inside of us. Shazam! Is a great step in the positive direction from DC.

A New Take on Superhero Origins

Aside from superheroes and comedy, Shazam! Is about family. The struggle of Billy Batson, a 14-year-old foster kid that causes problems for social workers while in search of his mother. A kid who has to deal with being in a new foster home, the search of his mother, and now being a superhero. Billy Batson gets his powers from an ancient wizard who passed on his powers after being labeled as “ true of heart” and worthy. The movie illustrates realistically what all kids would do if they turned into a superhero out of nowhere. They would mess around. Trying to figure out what your superpowers are, showing them off and maybe even lose your focus on what is really important.

Dr. Sivana, who was once rejected as a kid by the ancient wizard, teaches us a valuable lesson. Even after spending all his life trying to gain the powers of Shazam!, in the end, he fails. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how hard we work for something, if it isn’t meant to be ours, it won’t be. Dr. Sivana kidnaps Billy’s foster brothers and sisters trying to get his powers. Instead, Billy shares his powers with his brothers who together defeat Dr. Sivana.

The movie ends with Billy and the rest going back home and we see Billy finally feeling part of a family. We then see a small scene of Shazam! Visiting his brother at school and making him look cool. He tells everyone he learned how to be a superhero from him. Shazam! also brought a friend with him… Superman, whose face we don’t get to see.

Overall Shazam! Is a good movie to watch with friends or family. It is definitely better than other previous DC movies, they’re finally starting to compete with Marvel.
