Mark Hamill to Voice ‘Chucky’ in New Reboot

Mark Hamill, known for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, announced he will be the voice of Chucky in the upcoming Child’s Play reboot. The beloved actor announced the news and his excitement via Twitter on Saturday.

Hamill addressed fans at the Child’s Play panel at WonderCon in Anaheim this past weekend. In the video he says, “Child’s Play this summer, we’re gonna have some fun. And remember: he’s more than just a toy, he’s your best friend.”, before giving the camera a quick smirk.

Hamill adds ‘Chucky’ to an already impressive list of film achievement in voice and screen acting. As mentioned before, the star achieved notoriety with playing the infamous Jedi, Luke Skywalker, in the Star Wars film franchise. Hamill’s portrayal of ‘The Joker’ in the 1992 animated Batman series and other series since then is largely admired. Hamill also had voice appearances in popular shows like Hey Arnold!, Robot Chicken, and The Incredible Hulk TV series.

The reboot was announced back in July 2018. The film will star Aubrey Plaza (Safety Not Guaranteed), Gabriel Bateman (Lights Out), and Hamill. The plot is similar to the 1988 original where a mother (Plaza) gifts Chucky, a seemingly harmless doll, to her son (Bateman), unaware of the killer nature it possesses. There has been much buzz for the reboot, even more so now that Hamill has announced he will voice the evil doll.

The film began production in September 2018 and is slated for a June 21st, 2019 release date distributed by Orion Pictures.
