The Game of Thrones Season 8 Playlist on Spotify is Here

Created by co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss

The final countdown to the last season of Game of Thrones featured on HBO is finally upon us! What better way to guess an outcome of the finale with the announcement of a music playlist. Titled, “Game of Thrones: The End is Coming,” was put together by the two co-creators of the show and is a total of fifty song-tracks with a duration time of 3 hours and 24 minutes (WHOA).

The premiere of season 8 is set to air April 14, however, according to sources like Vice the creators decided to add one final shtick and that was to release this playlist via Spotify. Of course, every GoT fan (like myself) had to plug my earphones in and turn it up (literally)!

As if it wasn’t enough to set hidden “Iron Thrones” and also stage a global traveling exhibit, Benioff and Weiss have made this playlist with the intent of giving “hints” about the season and what is to come and how it will end (OMG)!!!!

Some artists featured on the playlist include: Rage Against the Machine, Led Zeppelin, the Doors, The Black Keys, The White Stripes, Kanye West, Royal Blood, Thrice, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Sleigh Bells, Black Flag, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and even U2 (and that’s just naming a few). So as you can imagine this playlist isn’t very consistent genre-wise, but if you’re really in tune with the show and what’s happened you can only imagine what it all means.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!

(To be honest, shame on you if you haven’t even TRIED to catch up).

A quick recap: Daenerys Targaryen has finally met up with Jon Snow and the Night’s Watch to fight the undead army of the tyrant known as the Night King. Daenerys swoops in right on time to save Jon Snow’s ass, but as she’s doing so one of her beloved children/dragons is taken down by the Night King himself. Luckily they all escape safely, BUT the Night King takes no time to revive her dragon, Viserion. Not only does he have an undead army that keeps increasing, he now owns a blue-fire breathing dragon.

Meanwhile, Cersi Lannister who sits on the iron throne has made a pact with Euron Greyjoy who kidnaps Theon’s older sister, Yara. Theon is finally able to man-up (since losing his manhood) and gather the remaining troops together for one last sea battle with his evil uncle to save his sister.

The remaining Starks: Arya, Sansa, Bran, and Jon Snow have all pledged their allegiance to the Mother of Dragons. For the most part, everyone has put their differences aside to team up and take out the real threat which is the Night King.

Soooooo…

(Back to this playlist)

I believe that reading some if not most of the music titles, can relate a lot to the show. For example, Rage Against the Machine’s track, “Sleep Now In the Fire” can translate to the battle of fire and ice. Another theory is the damage that the Night King plans to accomplish now that he has his very own dragon.

As far as other tracks go, some which have some significance to the Starks or the North, which carry keywords/phrases of wolves. I even believe that The Black Key’s “Howlin’ For You” can be about Jon’s feelings for Daenerys. A track titled, “Wolves of Winter” by Biffy Clyro is CLEARLY about the Starks of Winterfell. The track, “Bottom Of The Deep Blue Sea” by MISSIO has to be about the battle that is yet to happen on the sea with Theon and his uncle, Euron. Even the Pixies’ song, “Wave of Mutilation” could hold several meanings. It talks about waves of the sea, and Theon had already been mutilated.

Conclusion…

My interpretation of this playlist, the artists, and songs that were chosen could be way different than some of your’s (or perhaps we’re on the same page)? Whatever the case, I think this is one fun way that the creators are challenging diehard GoT fans to use their noodles before we actually get to see what really is going to go down. In my personal opinion, I think that either Daenerys or Jon Snow are going to sacrifice their lives to save the Seven Kingdoms from the treacherous grasp of winter forever. I also believe that Jamie Lannister might be the one to kill his own sister, seeing as if she has gone MAD with power and has become the Mad Queen. Who knows, maybe all wielders of the Valyrain Steel swords will come together to vanquish the Night King along with Daenerys’ and her remaining dragons.
