Friends Slated to be Taken Off of Netflix and Move to Warner Media New Streaming Service

In December Netflix pulled out hit TV show Friends only to be met by angry fans wanting the show back. After the backlash, the company decided to agree to a $100 million deal to have the show for the rest of  2019. This deal nearly quadrupled the price as the company before was only paying $30 million and took a large sum of their budget for obtaining other shows. Warner Bros now decided that Friends will be pulled from Netflix soon and be strictly on their new streaming service.

“I think you can expect the crown jewels of Warner will ultimately end up on our new service. Pulling it away (from Netflix) It’s certainly something we’re willing to do,” said Reilly at TCA.

With this same ideology, Warner Bros streaming service would also change the Netflix deal with the CW. With ongoing shows like Riverdale usually, after a season finishes it would go immediately on Netflix. Reilly would go on to say, “The CW with Netflix is not an output deal” and that “there’s a new offering of content coming up in the spring. I think you can anticipate we’re to be looking at that; we’re very interested in putting that (the CW series) on our platform.”

They would also state that the beta version for the new streaming service would launch in Q4 of this year. So all the Warner Bros content will be readily available to stream soon.
