MTV Reviving Spring Break

As 2019 approaches, MTV is planning to breathe life back into Spring Break. This new incarnation of the once popular program will take place and air March 19th through the 21st at the Grand Oasis Hotel in Cancún, Mexico.

While the event will still have its common celebrity guests and music performances, things will be switched up. This includes alternate events showing young activists who use their break to give back to the community.

The news broke out right after MTV’s takeover of the SnowGlobe Music Festival, The show is a big part of MTV’s plans to expand it’s live events businesses and “grow beyond cable,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.  

The news of this revival is not surprising as it follows in the heels of many other reboots of MTV’s classic era shows including; Jersey Shore, TRL, The Real World, The Hills, and Cribs.

Spring Break got its start in 1986 and continued to air on MTV until 2005. Eventually, the show moved and stayed on MTVU until its end in 2014.

The show filmed everywhere including the Caribbean and around South America. Pink and Lil Wayne appeared on the show and stars like Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore have been included on the show.

Under Chris McCarthy, who is the network president, MTV has stepped away from their scripted content. going back to its beginnings that made the network a success when it originally launched in the 80s.
