The Multiverse of Film Club is Bringing a Horror Maze to Rio Hondo

Enter the maze, if you dare.

The Pennywise themed maze arrives at the Wray theater with help from members of The Multiverse of Film Club. The maze will include seven rooms and around 30 scarers.

The maze will have a mixture from both, It, 1990 film and the 2017 reboot . Guests will see familiar faces all throughout the maze and most will not appear so friendly.

Planning for the project began in May. Richard Santoyo, who is the creative director for the club, began writing the script for the maze. Auditions for the event occured last month and the turn out was what he hoped for.

Santoyo promises this maze will be better than the last.

“It’s a lot better than the last year [maze], a lot scarier.”

Behind the the creative team is, Santoyo, Aaron Soto-Navarete, Emily Donoza, Leslie Lopez, and Belinda Dornaus, who are all on the E-Board for the club.

Soto-Navarete, creative lead, said there’s no way to know if this maze will be better, but he did say that the crew “learned from our mistakes last year.”

Soto-Navarete and Lopez, co-creative lead, both worked on setting dates and times, or working with the team.

Dornaus and Donoza, the treasurer, along with Soto-Navarete were the ones to mainly help construct the mazes and bring in props.

Funds for the maze came from their theater and craft class sponsor.

Along with the help of Professor Matthew Schleicher, his creative team and cast, they are hopeful in bringing everyone at Rio a good scare.

If you can come and join in on this tradition this Halloween, as Soto-Navarete says, “We plan on doing this for many many years.”
