The Nun: Movie Review

Another Film in The Conjuring Universe Scares Up The Box Office with Mixed Reviews.

A white chalky skin with eyes filled with evil and bloody fangs.

The Nun made scary appearances in several films of “The Conjuring” franchise. Now with the release of “The Nun,” it gives a vivid explanation and scenario as to when this character began. The film take you through its beginning, development, and how the character is assumed to be exterminated for life.

Though this character, The Nun was a major factor in all the previous movies. There wasn’t a real explanation as to when it started or where it came from. With this film, it focused on the development of one specific character.

The director and cast did a great job with the production of this individual film.

The film takes place in an abbey in 1952 Romania. The ominous character made her appearance with a gothic, and distinctive voice. The cursed castle gave the scene a perfect spooky, but not sacred place. Along with the dark candlelit halls, creaky unexpected sounds, and droning chants. The film begins to develop after a devout nun living in the abbey hangs herself from the window. Soon after the Vatican sends out demon hunter. Father Burke (Demian Bichir) and Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) a novitiate that is about to take her vows and become a nun. Sister Irene is sought by Father Burke because of her supernatural visions.

As the Father and Sister are going to the abbey a local farmer Maurice (Jonas Bloquet) a French-Canadian that identifies himself with the nickname Frenchie offers to help. He then becomes their guide as he is the person who found the hanging corpse. In my opinion, the fact that he decided to help the Father and the Sister only made me think of how much danger he was putting himself into. Then the Father, Sister, and Frenchie go to the abbey they notice and feel a dark but not sacred environment. This is why I disliked that Frenchie went with them and since he wasn’t a religious person something evil would be most likely to haunt him and even possess him.

Both the Father and the Sister decide to stay in that place as they experience evil presence in that place they also undergo unpleasant situations. Sister Irene and Father Burke are trying to find out what happened and why and they look for answers to which they get but not an easy way.

Sister Irene gathers enough information as well as Father Burke and soon after they make contact with The Nun. They discover a way to destroy and put an end to such an evil character and they proceed to do what they think is sacred and will give a final end to all that.

As Sister Irene makes physical contact with The Nun, she is possessed by her. Luckily, Frenchie comes to her rescue.

The Father, Sister, and Frenchie then become positive enough that they have won against this evil character so they decide to leave and forget about it. Without notice, Frenchie is possessed by the evil spirit. It gives an explanation as to why that evil presence never leaves no matter what. The end didn’t surprise me since I had that same idea that it was going to be the ending. Overall it was a good movie with some events that happened I disliked a lot.
