Deadpool wins big at the box office

*May contain spoilers*

Hello folks! Looking for an interesting film to watch? If so, Deadpool is the movie for you!

Rocking skintight red leggings with a face so hauntingly horrifying to look at, Deadpool hit the theaters bringing a personality too big for him and others. With sexual comments, innuendos, and sarcastic remarks, this film would be solemnly classified as a comedy if not for the action packed scenes, bittersweet romance, or the fact that it’s a superhero movie.

Released on Feb. 12, the movie has made box office success by making $135 million according to USA Today. Starring Ryan Reynolds as the snarky and humorous Wade Wilson, whose alter ego is Deadpool; the film turns a different direction from regular Marvel films and is a game changer.

Deadpool is about an ex Special Forces operative named Wade Wilson, who worked as a mercenary. One night in a bar he meets an escort, Vanessa, and after a night out both fall crazy in love.

Due to his recent diagnosis with cancer, Wilson turns to a sketchy recruiter from a secret program that offers to help him. The program has Wilson undergo experiments that are torturous.

Although the ending did seem a bit rushed and predictable, the film is perfectly balanced everywhere else. With years in the making, the film has received positive reviews by most critics and has a 96% rating on the website Rotten Tomatoes.

These are led by a man named Ajax, and after one torture tactic in particular, the alter ego Deadpool is created. Left with an ugly face and healing abilities, Wilson goes hunting for the man in charge of the mishap in hopes to have his face restored back to its normal state.

Much contradicting the general idea of the movie, Wilson is repeated saying again and again that he is no superhero or a good guy. This idea itself is ironic.

Regarding weapons used by the character, he is seen using two swords, which he carries behind his back, and uses several guns.

An interesting thing to note is that although it is nothing new, the character Deadpool continually breaks the fourth wall by making side comments to the audience. He also narrates parts of the movie and thinks loudly by saying thoughts out loud.

The movie is filmed with flashback scenes in the beginning, before resuming to a present state and continues like that from there on.

It is a genuinely good movie to watch. It has a mix of comedy, action, and brings a whole new other side to Marvel superheroes. It also doesn’t hurt that the film has a different than most love story going on.

Although the ending did seem a bit rushed and predictable, the film is perfectly balanced everywhere else. With years in the making, the film has received positive reviews by most critics and has a 96% rating on the website Rotten Tomatoes.

Reynolds himself was ecstatic about the movie, as he wanted to play this character for almost a decade. 20th Century Fox was hesitant to adapt the film and it was in limbo for a while before test footage was leaked.

Upon seeing how well people reacted to the footage, the idea proceeded to move forward. A Deadpool 2 is already being talked about but as of right now there is no general direction as to where it is heading.

Regarding the lead actor and his portrayal of Deadpool, Reynolds was brilliant. Known for doing mainly action films and comedies according to his filmography; Reynolds surprised everyone by delivering a performance unlike anything else he’s ever done.

Reynolds had also starred in another superhero movie before Deadpool. Directed by Martin Campbell, The Green Lantern (released 2011) was a major disappointment both with critics and commercially.

It was not as anticipated and did not have box office success like Deadpool. Reynolds has stated that he wants to continue playing Deadpool and has no interest in a reboot of The Green Lantern film expected in 2020.

The anticipated film did match up to the marketing. With humor and action packed scenes, Deadpool is a captivating and must-see film to watch. It is friendly to almost every type of moviegoer except for a younger audience, and appeals to both fans of the comic and new people who don’t know anything about it.

A precaution for minors would be that this movie is marked rated R due to strong violence, language, and includes brief but present nudity.

As stated earlier, if you’re looking to watch a movie, Deadpool is the way to go. It is playing in most theaters now.
