Rose Hills Memorial Park is celebrating its 6th annual Dia De Los Muertos Cultural Festival on Nov. 1 in celebration of the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead (celebrated from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2).

The festival will be taking place from 11 a.m. to  4 p.m. and is free of admission to the public.

Located at the Memorial Chapel at Rose Hills in Whittier, the festival will include an altar contest, catrina and catrin contest, food court, marketplace, children’s arts and crafts, and a variety of live entertainment.

Due to the festival’s close proximity to Rio’s campus, festival organizers have asked Rio for assistance through volunteer time.

Last year’s event had over 50 volunteers from Rio Hondo and hope to increase those numbers this year.

A variety of shift times and locations are available, and volunteers will receive a lanyard with their names printed on; along with an event t-shirt and lunch.

The festival is always a local community favorite drawing in big crowd’s from surrounding areas and cities, and providing a family friendly environment.

In the past, the festival has included gourmet Mexican dishes for guests, as well as a variety of music entertainment such as live Spanish rock bands and mariachis.

Last year’s event also featured attendees writing messages on a card for their loved ones who had passed away, and featured a surprise guest appearance from ABC 7 news reporter Alysha Del Valle, who announced to the audience information about the festival.
