Local Natives rock the Greek at homecoming show

The Greek Theatre of Hollywood hosted uprising band  Wild Nothing and Los Angeles darlings, Local Natives on the evening of Friday the 13.

Wild Nothing opened the show with a 45-minute set that gave fans the thumbs up to get on their feet, where they remained for the entirety of the show.

As Local Natives took the stage ready to perform their 90 minute set, vocalist Taylor Rice annouced to the crowd of over 5,000 fans, “This is the largest venue we have ever performed at”. Rice continued to thank fans for their support and welcomed  homecoming vibes.

The instrumental introduction led to the well-loved guitar riff of their newer single, “Breakers”. Thousands of hands clapped together to the beat and smiles emerged on the band members’ faces.

They followed with crowd favorites “World News” and “Wide Eyes”. By the end of the third song, Local Natives realized what kind of show this was going to be for the remainder of the set.

Attendees of all ages  screamed and shouted the lyrics to every song throughout the set.

The lighting was a huge aspect of the show. From flood lights shining into the pit to technicolor lights fluttering across the heads of the crowd, the rainbows exuding from the stage captured the emotional story that the lyrics told.

The honest and humble nature of the band really shined through in their interpersonal gestures and genuine smiles while performing.

These groovy and sensational vibes remained prominent in the audience over the course of their 18-song performance under the stars.

Their cover of Talking Heads’  “Warning Sign” added a funky twist to their performance, but they quickly shifted back to their more familiar sound. “Ceilings”, “You & I”, and their acousic performance of “Who Knows, Who Cares” captivated audiences to the point where their screams were almost louder than Local Natives’ harmonies.

Those harmonies…those harmonies! What strongly differentiates Local Natives from other bands in the same technical genre is ther raw talent through vocals and instrumentals.

The Greek Theatre was not only a great venue for Local Natives to play at becaue it is in their home town, but it is outdoors and features a cool breeze and a great view of the moon setting in the dark sky of the  Hollywood Hills.

The overall mood set by the environment left all music enthusiasts in store for an unforgettable night.

Fans from around the West coast that traveled to the Greek

got to witness such a humble and lively band in concert – so lively, that Rice chipped his tooth on the microphone during the encore performance of “Sun Hands”.

If you ever get the opportunity to catch Local Natives live at your local venue, it’s worth the trip. Whether you are a fan or a music lover, you will not be disappointed. coast that traveled to the Greek
