Rio Hondo College and Cerritos College to co-host traditional Chinese performance

Rio Hondo College and Cerritos College will be co-hosting a Dagu international cultural performance in partnership with the San Diego State University Confucius Institute. The performance of traditional Chinese operatic storytelling and story-singing is free and open to the public and will take place, March 21 at 7 p.m. at the Student Center Main Stage & Dining Room at Cerritos College.

The show will include performances by nationally acclaimed artists in China, such as actress/ Yang Fengjie, actress/sihu player Wang Hongmin, three-stringed lute player Zheng Liwen, and actor/lute player Xia Yan.

The performances will be traditional Chinese stories that include the war story ChangBan Po, the romantic fable Capturing SanLan, and comedy Tao Hwa Jian.

“These stories are very well-known in China”, said Cerritos College Trustee Dr.Shin Liu commenting on the content of the performance. “The evening will be a great introduction to Chinese culture for anyone who is interested.”

A raffle entry will be available to the first 100 guests for free. The guest will have a chance to win food, tea, gift certificates and other prizes. Refreshments that include traditional tea and tea cookies will be served. After the program a meet and greet with the artist will be available to guests with a donation.
