Rio Hondo College is currently presenting the artwork of International Photographer Kelly Barrie which started March 7 to April 18 from 9 a.m.– 3 p.m. and with afternoon hours 6- 9:00 p.m. The admission is at no cost as any other Cultural Event offered by RHC.  The art showing is presented in the Arts building located under the Business building.

The Art Gallery will follow an artist reception March 21 from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Barrie was born in London and currently resides in Los Angeles. Barrie’s unique and diverse ways have taken him around the world. Barrie’s photography is appreciated for his textual and emotional photo process expression and also for being part documental. Barrie captures the essence of emotion, a feat that can be appreciated by everyone from an aspiring artist to a curious on-looker.

Art Professor Robert Miller proudly said, “We are very fortunate to have Kelly Barrie present his work here at Rio Hondo” Barrie will be teaching one of the photography courses during the time of his gallery showing. According to Miller, Barrie will give students the techniques he has gained over the years. Key tools of the trade that unleash students’ artistic expression to its fullest potential and help them flourish into artists.

RHC students have attended the gallery and have positive reviews about it. RHC student, Andrew Jocson said after attending, “Very impressive how he is able to capture raw emotion through his work.” Jocson is an Emergency Medical Technician who is aspiring an Associates Degree in Fire Technology from RHC. Students are encouraged to attend even if Art is not of their interest, to experience Barrie’s powerful, abstract work.
