Women’s soccer team triumph at home

Another successful performance for Rio Hondo’s women’s soccer team on Tuesday afternoon beating Glendale college 3-0 at home.

After various attempts to score Lily Gama scored the first goal during the opening half of the game. Jessica Villlagomez scored the next goal during the second half giving the girls a comfortable lead going into the last quarter.

Roadrunners were able to keep possession and maintain control although Glendale had their attempts, Rio kept their head in the game and minutes before the game ended Tatiana Carrillo was able to assist Selena Gomez’s goal.

Armstrong said that this game was successful for them because they set goals prior to this game, they wanted to  win more balls in the air and be able to do more crosses, as they came on the field and reached them.

Assisting Coach Holly Armstrong is very confident for the season, she said they set a difficult schedule for their preseason in hopes that it will make the girls stronger for the Foothill Conference.

During the second half a yellow card was called on Sabrina Gomez giving Glendale a free kick off , almost 20 yards away from the goal. Goalie Sandra Rodriguez was quick to react and saved the Roadrunners.

The women’s team will kick off the Foothill Conference at home against Mt. San Jacinto Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. They will travel away to San Bernardino and Victor Valley.
