Men’s soccer team loses first game

It’s that time of year again for soccer season. Things didn’t go as expected when the first game got cancelled on Monday due to technical difficulties.

According to the assistant coach, “The players were a bit anxious and made simple mistakes. We have a lot of young players and only five returners.” They were prepared to start playing and on their first season game vs. Cerritos, they had a great start.

There were 11 starting players and the roadrunners were set. The weather was hot but the players had good communication throughout the beginning. As time passed the players started getting tired but players Jose Martinez-Diaz, Jaime Ayala, Ignacio Villanueva, Rigoberto Arrendon, and Federico Bobadilla had good foot work and ball control. Michael Palmer, Jose Gonzalez and Louis Cortez made a great defense and had good saves.

By the end of first half Cerritos was winning by a score of 2-0.

The roadrunners still had a chance when the second half started but they appeared discouraged and the communication was lacking.

Time was wasting and the team started to get more attentive and gave it their all. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough because Cerritos scored once more.

The ending score was 3-0 and the team was not happy. The coach left right after the game and let the assistant coach take over.

Cortez stated, “I think it would’ve been better if we played Monday to see how we were going to do today.” That would have probably helped because then they would’ve known what they had to improve on.

Sanchez stated, “We have like five returners and it’s kind of hard for the freshman’s to change to a faster pace. I know they were nervous and they released their stress. It’s not gonna happen again.” This was thier first match and there are many more games to go.
