Puppy Stress Therapy at Rio

Puppy Therapy returned to Rio Hondo for another semester of fun in the sun with students in the lower quad, all thanks to Associated Student Senator Kiara Rolon of Student Success.

The last month of school can be very chaotic for people who are reaching the end of their journey here at Rio Hondo or those still on their journey. Rolon and the AS Team hired a company named Puppies and Reptiles Party where 10 to 15 puppies were brought on campus to relieve stress that fellow Rio Hondo students had procured from studying for finals.

“This event started last semester of 2016 which lead to a huge success,” said Rolon. “I love seeing the smiling faces and calmed posture the puppy therapy gives to stressed or overwhelmed students during this time of upcoming finals.”

The event occurs annually on the last month of school for two hours and is opened to everyone.

“Having puppy therapy here at school is a very cool because at this moment, time is very crucial due to the fact the year practically over and everything is like rushed” said Freshmen Raquel Rice. “Just setting aside time to breathe and relax by getting to play with the puppy is a sign of relief.

The event was free and open to all students and faculty, but waiver forms and stamps were given out before petting the furry creatures, alongside free snacks.

“Since this is my last semester here at Rio, I hope that next year’s Student Success candidate keeps the tradition,” said Rolon.

Puppy therapy welcomed our new friends to the lower quad where students took advantage the two hours by playing, petting, and even shooting a picture with the new visitors.
