The bill that can put President Trump’s border wall in jeopardy

Juan Fernandez, Staff Writer

Councilman Gil Cedillo said that he plans to introduce a bill this Friday at the Los Angeles city council meeting that would require the names of the companies bidding to make President Donald Trump’s Mexican border wall be seen by the public. As Cedillo’s office released a statement as to why the bill was created, “immigrants contribute billions of dollars in income and make up a significant part of the workforce and business community” as “city residents deserve to know where and how the funding is being spent and whether or not they support individuals or entities involved in the construction of a border wall that will have a significant impact on them and bring harm to their families and communities.”

As the passing of the bill will likely happen “due to L.A.’s Large pro-immigrant city council,” wrote Dennis Romero, an L.A Weekly writer. The bill would make it more difficult for President Trump and the companies trying to build the wall, because of the fact that the companies will be required to state whether or not they were part of the bidding war. As for Trump, he will have a difficult time attracting companies to a build a border wall due to the negative black lash and harass the companies will face for building the wall.

The wall itself is said to run along the entire U.S.- Mexico border, and to make Mexico pay for it,however President Trump has yet to force or coerce Mexico to pay for the wall and, as Reuters reported in february, a U.S. department of homeland security analysis concluded it could cost up to 21.6 billion dollars to build his wall.

Trump’s border wall plan has become a difficult situation as people continue to fight his plans, “We think the city council has generally been very concerned about ensuring that immigrants are seen as a respected and important part of our community,” says, Elmendorf of LAANE and with putting more support around the immigrant people, it further makes President Trump’s Border Wall look less and less like a real possibility.
