University Transfer Day at Rio Hondo

Twice every semester various colleges all around California and nearby states come to the annual University Transfer Day at Rio Hondo College.

The colleges that attend vary between Universities of California, such as Santa Barbara and Davis, to California State Universities, such as Los Angeles and Fullerton, the sister college of Rio Hondo. Other universities also attend the fair for example, private institutes and out-of-state colleges, such as Arizona State University which was located at the primary entrance and exit of Rio Hondo.

Each college booth at the fair had stacks of pamphlets and flyers illustrating their desire for Rio Hondo students. One student, Nashat Cabral, a third year business major, proclaimed, “All the spokesmen are cool”, they’re professional and they take time to answer each question”. Cabral plans to attend either UC Irvine, UCLA or USC in the Fall of 2017. His decision is yet to be made.

Most of the students who have attended the college fair find that the information is quite useful. Student Eddie Lopez claims, “The fair is very informative, it also expands my transfer options”. Lopez is a third year business major as well. Lopez hopes after he finishes his ten remaining units, he will have the privilege of transferring to either Cal Poly Pomona or CSU Los Angeles.

With transferring becoming increasingly more important to community college students, college fairs such as Thursday’s are becoming incredibly vital for any student hoping to attend a 4-year university. The information gained from attending college fairs could benefit the student in more ways than one.
